What are my tenancy rights?

A tenant has the right to peaceful enjoyment of the rental unit and at any point in time that enjoyment is breached by either the landlord or another tenant within the complex, the tenant who is offended can make an application through Central Legal Services to get restitution or a resolve.

The tenant also has the right to functioning appliances in a well maintained unit and have adequate heating. Should a landlord fail to provide those services to the tenant, Central Legal Services can be employed to resolve these issues.

Should you encounter any discomfort as a tenant or experience any lack of maintenance, kindly contact us so we can assess your particular situation.

How to address rent in arrears

Should you find yourself in a situation where your tenant is either paying rent late, or failing to pay rent in its entirety, we are well poised to issue notices of termination so that a replacement tenant can be found. Avoid the stress, and let us handle the process of terminating a tenancy, pursuing the outstanding rental payments, and gaining vacant possession of the rental unit.

Rights when selling an occupied home

During the course of a tenancy the landlord may seek to sell the rental unit. In most cases that should not be cause for concern as the buyer, having viewed the property, will know that it is tenanted. Changing ownership should have no impact on the tenant.

However, there are instances when the purchaser seeks to reside in the rental dwelling. In those cases, it would be necessary for the tenant to depart from the rental unit. There are only certain instances in which the purchaser can move into the rental unit.  If you fear having to leave your rental unit, contact Central Legal Services to explore your options.
